Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Mike Gapes (Labour and Co-operative Party), on Monday, 3 February 2003, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 5 members in total.
LONDON UNDERGROUND AND CONGESTION CHARGE
That this House notes the recent chaotic deterioration of transport in London following the Central Line Chancery Lane tube crash and a heavy snow fall; notes that there has been a serious increase in road traffic congestion over recent months as a result of changes to traffic light phasing, road works schemes and road closures implemented or sanctioned by Transport for London; further notes that the Mayor of London and Transport for London plan to press ahead regardless with the introduction of the congestion charge on 17th February despite a 10 per cent. reduction in capacity on the tube system; and calls on Mayor Livingstone to delay the introduction of the congestion charge until the Central Line tube is back to operating at full capacity.
