FOOD JUSTICE STRATEGIES BILL

That this House notes the report by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation published in 1999 that highlighted the fact that over four million people in the United Kingdom do not have access to healthy food; further notes reports by the Malnutrition Advisory Group that show that up to 5,000 people in each parliamentary constituency may be malnourished and that one in seven people over 65 are malnourished or at serious risk of malnourishment; recognises that this situation can be caused by a number of factors such as inadequate income, lack of reasonable access to shops and inadequate information; and therefore supports the Food Justice Strategies Bill which will require the drawing up and implementation of local and national strategies to promote food justice and end food poverty.
