LEASEHOLD SCAMS

That this House calls for Government action against freeholders who engage in activities often against vulnerable homeowners, such as refusing to take cheques paid in advance and then charging a fine for non-payment at the due date; failing to cash cheques properly sent and then charging an extortionate fine for late payments, cashing cheques properly sent and then charging an extortionate fine for supposed late payment, threatening to visit the home and gain access unless photographs are sent, charging for registering extensions when the lease terms make no such requirements and requiring levels of third party insurance on the property which are disproportionate and from the insurer unreasonably insisted on by the freeholder.
