Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Tom Levitt (Labour), on Wednesday, 10 March 2004, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 41 members in total.

BUXTON MINERAL WATER

That this House notes that Buxton Mineral Water has had a reputation for its pure and wholesome qualities for around 2,000 years; further notes that it has a significant place in the retail bottled water market and is the official drink for the Wimbledon tennis championship; further notes that the Buxton Mineral Water company is a significant employer in Buxton; additionally notes that the Coca Cola company, which provides chiller cabinets for drinks in many retail stores, is seeking to ban Buxton Mineral Water from its chiller cabinets and replace it with its own product; observes that whereas regulations exist to prevent the monopoly abuse of retail freezer cabinets for ice cream, no such regulations exist for chilled drinks; calls upon Coca cola to behave as though such regulations did apply to chilled drinks and to continue to allow retailers some discretion as to whether or not to stock Buxton Mineral Water in their chiller cabinets; and requests that the Office of Fair Trading investigates this matter.

BUXTON MINERAL WATER (801A1)
The Early day motion has received an amendment sponsored by Derek Conway (primary, Conservative) and tabled on Sunday, 28 March 2004. It has been signed by 1 members in total.
Line 5, leave out from 'that' to end and add 'Coca-Cola has not and does not seek to ban independent retailers from selling Buxton Mineral Water or any other brand in their stores; further notes that every chiller cabinet arrangement between Coca-Cola and independent retailers clearly states that "This rental arrangement does not stop you stocking other soft drink products in your outlet or elsewhere"; observes that Coca-Cola offers independent retailers three ways in which to enter into an arrangement on chiller cabinets: they can choose to purchase the chiller cabinets from Coca-Cola, they can rent space in the chiller cabinet for a peppercorn rent of ??2 a week, and they can choose to accept the chiller cabinet free of charge; and further observes that the first two options allow any brand of soft drink to be sold in the chiller cabinets, and that for the third option Coca-Cola asks the retailer that only its brands be stocked but makes it clear that the agreement in no way precludes the stocking of other products or chiller cabinets within the shop.'
