Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Bernard Jenkin (Conservative), on Wednesday, 26 November 2003, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 43 members in total.
REGIONAL ASSEMBLIES (no.3)
That this House believes that a referendum on regional government for Yorkshire and the Humber is a costly and unnecessary distraction from the real concerns of people throughout Yorkshire who want better public services and have no need for a new tier of politicians and bureaucrats who would make decisions more remote from the people, not closer to them; and particularly decries the likely abolition of the North Yorkshire County Council which has an exemplary record of providing high quality services.
