Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor David Davis (Conservative), on Wednesday, 26 November 2003, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 50 members in total.
CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGE
That this House condemns the Government for seeking to abolish the positions of Lord Chancellor and Law Lords; points out that it has failed to make a cogent case for either action; warns against emasculating the Other Place as a check on an already powerful Government; welcomes the fact that the judiciary, the Law Lords and the House of Lords have all demonstrated their independence from the Government; and calls on the Government to return to a more consensual approach to constitutional reform.
