Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Barry Sheerman (Labour and Co-operative Party), on Thursday, 16 December 2004, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 35 members in total.

BRITISH POLLING COUNCIL

That this House welcomes the launch of the British Polling Council by the UK's largest public opinion research companies; notes that the opinion polling industry has responded to the decline of self-regulation and the need to take action to ensure transparency and honesty in polling and the reporting of opinion polls; welcomes the fact that member companies must make information available on their websites within two days of a survey being published, including details of those who paid for the poll, the sample and interviewing methods used, and full data tables; and hopes that the British Polling Council will be effective in overseeing and enforcing a strict set of disclosure standards relating to published polls.
