Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Andrew Mackinlay (Labour), on Thursday, 10 March 2005, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 3 members in total.

LEGISLATION FOR A MORGANATIC MARRIAGE

That this House commends for reading columns 2181 and 2182 of the Official Report of 10th December 1936, which makes it clear that both the Prime Minister and King Edward VIII concluded that it would be necessary for Parliament to pass legislation for a morganatic marriage if the prospective spouse of Edward VIII was not automatically to become Queen; and seeks to establish why, when and by whom this constitutional principle has subsequently been varied.
