Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Peter Bradley (Labour), on Tuesday, 15 March 2005, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 16 members in total.
AFC TELFORD UNITED'S AWARD
That this House congratulates AFC Telford United, Telford & Wrekin Council and their partners in the public, private and voluntary sectors for winning the coveted Local Government Chronicle national award for community involvement for their pioneering work in using football to foster learning, social inclusion and community development; notes that a year ago the club was placed in receivership and faced liquidation until it was saved by its own fans who now own it; recognises the huge progress it has made over the last year in harnessing the support of the community and commends its ambitious plans for the future; believes that only much-deserved promotion to the Unibond Premier Division can cap a tumultuous season; and calls on other clubs from the Premiership upwards to make the pilgrimage to the Bucks Head to see what a real community-based football club looks like.
