TOBACCO DUTY REVENUE RECEIPTS
That this House notes that the Government's estimate that the cost to the NHS of treating people with smoking related diseases is ??1.7 billion; further notes that the amount collected by the Exchequer in tobacco duty revenue in 2003-04 was ??8.1 billion; and calls upon the Government to explain how it will make up the lost revenue from tobacco sales, and subsequently lost alcohol sales, if a ban on smoking in pubs is introduced.
