Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Michael Moore (Liberal Democrat), on Thursday, 2 December 2004, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 19 members in total.
DAIRY FARMING IN SCOTLAND
That this House notes with concern the recent Milk Development Council Report highlighting the drop in farmgate prices for milk while supermarket margins on milk have increased significantly; recognises the pressure this is putting on farmers in Scotland; is concerned that the average dairy farmer earns just ??2.90 an hour for a 70-hour week; and calls on the Government to strengthen the Supermarket Code of Practice, to do more to increase transparency in the dairy supply chain, and to promote fair and equitable distribution of the retail price of milk.
