STAFFORDSHIRE AMBULANCE SERVICE

That this House congratulates the Staffordshire Ambulance Service for leading the national ambulance tables for the last seven years by pioneering the use of a high performance system which relies not on traditional fixed ambulance stations but on siting ambulances where they are likely to be required, for the innovative use of thrombolytic clot-busting drugs on the way to hospital to reduce the risk of death following a heart attack, for the effective use of technological developments to improve patient outcomes, for reducing unnecessary transport to hospitals by treating some patients at home, and for its effective use of trained community volunteers as first responders to emergency calls in remote rural areas while the ambulance is en route; and urges that the merger of the four current West Midlands ambulance services should only be considered for back office functions, and that Staffordshire Ambulance Service should remain as it is operationally or be merged with the Shropshire Ambulance Service as originally proposed.
