Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Joan Ruddock (Labour), on Tuesday, 24 January 2006, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 46 members in total.
GOVERNMENT'S ENVIRONMENTAL RECORD
That this House warmly congratulates the Government on being ranked fifth best in the world out of 133 countries in tackling 16 domestic and global environmental problems, according to the first performance league tables to be launched at the World Economic Forum; notes that the report which is based on environmental health and habitat quality indicators found major differences between countries with similar legacies of pollution, resource degradation and wealth and expresses the view that `good governance emerges as a critical driver of environmental performance'; further notes that the world's poorest countries came bottom of the league largely because their governments had no resources to address their environmental problems; and calls on the Government to redouble its efforts to promote and deliver environmental sustainability, both nationally and internationally.
