Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Sandra Gidley (Liberal Democrat), on Tuesday, 11 July 2006, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 87 members in total.
UNPUBLISHED DATA ON ASSAULTS ON MENTAL HEALTH WARDS
That this House is deeply concerned that NHS Gateway has still not published data collected under the National Learning and Reporting System of the National Patient Safety Agency which records more than 100 cases of sexual assault and harassment, including 10 rapes, in NHS mental health units over the past two years; notes that this data was received in November; further notes that the National Patient Safety Agency declined to provide the data when it was requested under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 by the mental health charity Mind in May; is concerned that many patients in mental health units are still being accommodated in mixed-sex settings despite Government targets to end the use of mixed-sex wards; believes that urgent steps must be taken to stop sexual abuse of any kind in mental health settings and to ensure that nobody is being treated on mixed-sex wards; and calls on the Government to publish this report immediately.
