Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Mark Oaten (Liberal Democrat), on Thursday, 8 November 2007, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 20 members in total.

QUEEN'S SPEECH TRAFFIC DISRUPTION

That this House notes with concern the traffic disruption caused by the closing of St Margaret Street and Millbank/Great Parliament Street between 30th October and 12th November for the Queen's Speech; notes that these closures have resulted in serious traffic disruption for thousands of Londoners; recognises the obvious security requirements surrounding the State Opening of Parliament, but questions the merits of a 13 day road closure for an eight minute speech; and calls on the Government to carry out a review of the necessity of such measures for the State Opening in 2008.

Amendments

The Early day motion has received 2 amendments.

170A1
Leave out from `Speech' to end and add `and the Remembrance Commemorations on 11th November; but sees little alternative at a time of heightened security concerns and believes it is a small price to pay both to uphold the traditions of the United Kingdom parliament and to honour the memory of the servicemen and women who have died for our freedom.'.
170A2
leave out from `questions' to end and add `the need for an annual State Opening ceremony; and believes that the State Opening should only take place after a general election.'.
