REDUCTION OF FUNDING FOR THE WELSH NATIONAL OPERA COMPANY
That this House condemns the decision of the British Arts Council not to include the Welsh National Opera among those companies to benefit from the new Enhancement Fund; notes that the Welsh National Opera will be some ??300,000 short of necessary funds; and calls on the Secretary of State for Wales to ensure proper funding for the Opera Company and for him to have an urgent meeting with the Chairman of the Arts Council to reassess the position.
