OPPOSITION TO WAR IN THE GULF

That this House reaffirms that it abhors the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq and welcomes the determination of the United Nations Security Council to secure the withdrawal of the Iraqi forces from Kuwait on the basis required by the Security Council Resolution 660; applauds the swift decision on mandatory economic sanctions; notes the evidence that they are being effectively implemented by the international community; believes that the freeing of Kuwait as a result of such international action would enhance the authority of the United Nations and could provide the basis for greater mutual respect of the territorial integrity of its member countries; therefore recognises the very dangerous consequences of a Gulf War; and considers that the United Nations authorised forces should not undertake military action before sanctions have been in operation long enough to have the maximum impact; and urges that every effort be made to achieve a solution through diplomacy and other peaceful means consistent with Security Council Resolution 660.

leave out from 'that' to end and add 'the process of a peaceful freeing of Kuwait based upon economic sanctions and negotiations will be greatly enhanced if any forces acting under United Nations' authority are transformed into a genuine multi-national body reduced to a size deemed necessary for the purpose of the effective policing of economic sanctions and the continuing defence of Saudia Arabia, whilst operating under a clear United Nations command structure controlled by the United Nations Military Staff Committee.'.
