Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Bob Spink (Independent (affiliation)), on Monday, 9 March 2009, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 18 members in total.
BBC TELEPHONE VOTING
That this House notes the BBC's continuing use of misleading statements when viewers are invited to ring on premium rate telephone lines; is concerned that viewers are told that calls may be charged after voting lines are closed when the fact is that such calls are always charged in full; further notes that the BBC received ??106,000 over a two year period from calls made when voting lines were closed; believes that this could be viewed as deception; calls on the BBC to address the honesty of its warnings to viewers; and asks the Government further to protect viewers from shady telephony practices by all broadcasters.
