Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Hardy of Wath (Labour), on Tuesday, 10 March 1992, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 22 members in total.
SILVERWOOD COLLIERY-RECORD ACHIEVEMENT
That this House notes the very considerable achievement at Silverwood Colliery in Thurbergh near Rotherham, where production recently passed the previous annual record of 1.32 million tonnes; appreciates that this was achieved by a smaller workforce reaching levels of productivity which may be unmatched by the rest of British industry; offers its congratulations to all involved at this colliery; and expresses the view that such achievement should not be followed by further contraction of the mining industry which would reveal a short sighted disregard of the national interest.
