Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor David Gilroy Bevan (Conservative), on Friday, 13 March 1992, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 1 members in total.
SUNDAY TRADING, SUNDAY OBSERVATION AND THE SPECIAL NATURE OF SUNDAY
That this House notes the rapidly declining popularity for Sunday opening of stores, supermarkets and mega-centres and their closure resulting from economic non-viability; realises that their future demand will be limited and short-seasonal; notes that the trading laws will have to be amended and rationalised in response to citizen, church and trade unionist alike; but welcomes the fact that this may be done in such a way as to allow Sunday still to be special, and people to be free to enjoy worshipping within their churches and places of worship as before and for the quiet enjoyment of their relaxation, hobbies and sports, without the massive intrusion of a universal provision of unrestricted shopping to erode traditional and Christian Sunday life.
