Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Graham Stringer (Labour), on Wednesday, 16 December 2009, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 11 members in total.
CONVICTED PRISONERS' RIGHT TO VOTE IN ELECTIONS (No. 2)
That this House regrets that the European Court of Human Rights ruled in 2004 that the UK's blanket ban on convicted prisoners having the right to vote was in breach of its convention; notes that the convicted child murderer Peter Chester-Speakman failed in his attempt to get the High Court to grant him and all other convicted prisoners the right to vote; and therefore calls on the Government to bring forward legislative proposals to maintain the ban.
