Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Mann (Labour), on Wednesday, 17 March 2010, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 36 members in total.
MEPHEDRONE AND RELATED SUBSTANCES
That this House notes that selling mephedrone, methadrone, methylone or related cathinone derivatives is illegal under the Medicines Act 1968; further notes that nevertheless, such drugs are on sale in `headshops' and online and that possession is not currently an offence; further notes that the chemicals in these drugs cause internal burns and cuts; further notes that once users have started using the drugs in a particular session, use is very hard to stop; and calls on the Government to intervene and bring forward proposals to proscribe such substances under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
