Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Margaret Ewing (Scottish National Party), on Thursday, 30 January 1992, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 2 members in total.
SCOTTISH HISTORY AND SCOTTISH UNIVERSITIES
That this House deplores the decision of Edinburgh University not to appoint a Professor to the Sir William Fraser Chair of Scottish History and Paleography for up to two years following upon the retirement of Professor Geoffrey Barrow; believes that all Scottish Universities should recognise the distinctive traditions of our nation's history, culture and languages as an inalienable right of students attending universities in Scotland; states that the reduction of chairs of Scottish history to only two is a threat to Scotland's identity as a nation; and calls on Edinburgh University to reverse this decision immediately.
