Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Tony Cunningham (Labour), on Tuesday, 28 February 2012, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 20 members in total.

FUEL PRICES AND DUTY (No. 2)

That this House recognises that people and businesses are being hit very hard by high and rising fuel prices; notes that this is on top of tax rises and spending cuts that go too far and too fast; and urges the Chancellor in his budget, to temporarily cut VAT which would take almost three pence off the price of petrol and ease the pressure on hard pressed families and firms.

FUEL PRICES AND DUTY (No. 2) (2788A1)
The Early day motion has received an amendment sponsored by Robert Halfon (primary, Conservative) and tabled on Tuesday, 28 February 2012. It has been signed by 6 members in total.
leave out from `prices' to end and add `notes that a motorist on average earnings pays up to a 10th of their income on filling up their car; further notes that a VAT cut is temporary and unfunded and that fuel tax is 10 pence lower than it would have been due to the actions of the coalition Government; further recognises a VAT cut would make no difference to most businesses as they are exempt from VAT; and urges the Government to stop the planned August fuel tax rise, look to cutting fuel taxes when financial conditions allow and introduce a fair fuel stabiliser which would reduce taxes when pump prices rise due to increases in international oil prices.'.
