Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Corbett of Castle Vale (Labour), on Monday, 9 December 1991, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 71 members in total.
FUTURE OF THE DAILY MIRROR
That this House welcomes the spirited declaration by journalists and other staff on the Daily Mirror and its sister papers that any potential buyer must respect the papers' political and social stance, including support for the Labour party; notes that the radical and campaigning journalism of these titles is a counter to the pro-Conservative bias of most of the rest of the Press; insists that any future owner honours all trade union agreements and the independence of editors from proprietorial interference; and calls upon readers of these titles to help to ensure that this declaration is honoured in full.

- 360A2
- after 'that' insert 'they have dissociated themselves from their former proprietor; notes they played no part in the manipulation of the spot-the-ball competitions or the misappropriation of donations to the Ethiopian Famine Relief Fund and Mother Theresa by Daily Mirror readers; casts doubt on whether any of the past management should take any role in the Daily Mirror's future, or in the supervision of what is left of its pension fund.'
