ROYAL COLLEGE OF NURSING

That this House congratulates the Royal College of Nursing, which supports more than 430,000 registered nurses, midwives, health visitors, nursing students, healthcare assistants and nurse cadets across the UK, in its centenary year; recognises the important contribution the College has made to promoting nursing and to driving excellence and innovation in nursing practice and patients care over the last 100 years; calls on the House to celebrate the dedication of nursing staff across the UK, who often care for the most vulnerable in our society; and notes that the College continues to work closely with parliaments in the UK and other national and European political institutions, trade unions, professional bodies and voluntary organisations to achieve exceptional care for patients.

The Early day motion has received an amendment sponsored by Mark Durkan (primary, Social Democratic & Labour Party) and tabled on Monday, 14 March 2016. It has been signed by 23 members in total.
at end add 'and endorses the RCN's #NursingCounts campaign to highlight the 14 per cent real terms fall in nursing pay since 2010 which is forcing more and more nurses and healthcare assistants to consider their future in the profession they love; and encourages Ministers to listen to the College's clear warnings on their proposals to replace bursaries for nursing students with loans.'.
