Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Jim Lester (Conservative), on Monday, 1 November 1993, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 62 members in total.
OXFAM'S COLD FRONT APPEAL 1993
That this House notes with concern that around five million people in former Yugoslovia, Albania, Iraq and the transcaucasian republics of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia are in need of urgent assistance to help them survive the onset of winter; regrets the continued underfunding of UN appeals in all of these countries; praises the generosity of the British public who responded to Oxfam's 1992 Cold Front Appeal by donating over 2.25 million items of clothing and ??750,000 in cash; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to respond equally generously to Oxfam's 1993 Cold Front Appeal by increasing its funding to United Nations appeals for these countries and making strenuous diplomatic efforts through bodies such as United Nations and the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe to mediate between warring factions and protect the victims of conflict.
