Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Paul Masterton (Conservative), on Monday, 12 March 2018, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 13 members in total.

WEST COLLEGE SCOTLAND TAKES STAND ALONE PLEDGE

That this House congratulates West College Scotland on becoming the first college in the UK to take the Stand Alone Pledge to support estranged students; notes that the Stand Alone charity exists to support the one in five people of all ages across the UK who become estranged from or disowned by their family or a key family member at some point throughout their lives; recognises that research by Stand Alone has found that estranged students are three times more likely to drop out of education than the average student due to pressure, stress and isolation caused by familial estrangement; and commends Stand Alone, West College Scotland and all other champion institutions for coming together to promote greater awareness and continuously develop support for estranged students, enabling them to achieve their potential in education.
