Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Ian Lucas (Labour), on Tuesday, 4 June 2019, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 24 members in total.

FLUSHABLE WIPES AND EFFECT ON THE ENVIRONMENT

That this House notes that toilet wipes are being sold in the United Kingdom that are harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects; further notes that these wipes are sold as flushable and therefore make their way into the sewerage system; notes that with rising pollution in the world’s seas and oceans, there is a need to reduce toxic material entering the eco system; expresses concern around the manufacture of these products and their sale in shops and supermarkets across the UK; and urges the Government to review the safety of these items in light of the damage they can do to sea-based wildlife.
