CELEBRATING THE PUNJABI WOMEN’S DANCE FESTIVAL TEEYAN
That this House congratulates the women of the West London-based organisation Voice of Women on their inspiring performance of a specially choregraphed Teeyan folk dance on 22 July 2019 in the Palace of Westminster; notes that Teeyan celebrates women and daughters during the monsoon season; celebrates Punjabi culture and the contributions made to the UK by Punjabi women and by the greater Punjabi community; recognises the importance of supporting women-led initiatives and removing obstacles to women’s leadership, as well as expanding opportunities for women in education and employment; condemns all forms of violence and discrimination against women and girls, including in the home; and affirms the value of the ethnic and cultural diversity in our communities across London and the greater UK.
