PAEDIATRIC CONTINENCE SERVICES

That this House notes that bladder and bowel problems affect more than 900,000 children and young people in the United Kingdom; is concerned that the Paediatric Continence Forum reports that first line paediatric continence services across the country have deteriorated as local authority spending on them has reduced, and that this has placed greater strain on Level 2 services which are already over-stretched addressing complex continence problems such as daytime wetting, bedwetting and constipation, which have not been solved through first line treatment; welcomes the publication by the Forum of an updated version of The Children's Continence Commissioning Guide giving practical advice about what a good paediatric continence serves looks like; and calls on the Government to encourage all commissioners to ensure that, from birth to 19 years of age, all children for whose welfare they are responsible have access to a fully integrated Community Children's Continence Service that meets the standards set by NICE and the appropriate NHS regulations and which are the basis of the new edition of the Guide.
