Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Carol Monaghan (Scottish National Party), on Wednesday, 25 September 2019, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 39 members in total.

WAR DISABLEMENT PENSION AND EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT ALLOWANCE

That this House recognises that veterans are an asset to our society and deserve the best possible care and support; considers that those who have been injured in the service of the UK deserve the full value of their War Disablement Pension; notes that under the current system the War Disablement Pension is counted as income by the Department for Work and Pensions and can therefore lead to veterans being materially disadvantaged when claiming Employment Support Allowance; welcomes the Scottish Government altering the rules to ensure that the War Disablement Pension is exempt from income assessments and that veterans therefore receive its full value; and calls on the Department for Work and Pensions to follow suit and disregard the War Disablement Pension from means-testing.
