PROTECTING STAFF AND SERVICES ON THE WEST COAST MAINLINE (No. 2)
That this House notes that First Trenitalia has been awarded the West Coast rail franchise from December 2019; shares the view of the RMT union that the jobs, conditions and pensions of West Coast staff and staff of subcontractors including Alstom, Leadec and DHL have to be fully protected throughout the new franchise; calls for guarantees that the full safety-critical guard role, station staffing and ticket offices will be maintained; further calls for the current catering provision, including a full buffet car, to be retained on all trains and the current cleaning staffing levels and depot locations to be maintained; and calls on the Government to demand these protections from the new franchise.
