Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Angela Eagle (Labour), on Wednesday, 12 May 1993, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 71 members in total.
CONDUCT OF THE HON. MEMBER FOR WELWYN HATFIELD
That this House deplores the comments of the honourable Member for Welwyn Hatfield that 'of the 1 million long-term unemployed, probably half can be termed layabouts' recorded in the Official Report of 27th April, Volume 223, column 838; regrets that the Secretary of State for Employment has not seen fit to rebut this slur on those put out of work by her Government; and calls for it to be rebutted or withdrawn at the earliest opportunity.
