Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Terry Rooney (Labour), on Tuesday, 25 May 1993, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 64 members in total.
INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS AT UNITED NEWSPAPERS
That this House notes the de-recognition of the National Union of Journalists at the Yorkshire Post and Yorkshire Evening Post, parts of the United Newspapers Group; further notes that this follows the de-recognition of the former NGA and SOGAT unions and that de-recognition has led to massive reductions in pay and conditions of employment; believes that free trades unions are a pre-condition of a democratic society along with a free press; and calls on the management of United Newspapers to reverse this abuse of employees' rights.
