Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Angus Brendan MacNeil (Scottish National Party), on Wednesday, 2 March 2022, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 11 members in total.
European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service
That this House calls on the Government to re-join the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS); notes that EGNOS is a Safety-of-Life service that is required across the UK for safe flight operations from the Hebrides to the Isles of Scilly; recognises airline services to be vital in many places for bringing mail and cargo, taking people to and from medical appointments, facilitating search and rescue operations and general travel and without this capability there is a risk to life; observes that since leaving EGNOS in June 2021 that the UK is the only G20 country without any satellite-based aviation navigation capability; and urges the Government to swiftly review and reassess the decision to leave EGNOS.
