Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Piara S Khabra (Labour), on Thursday, 6 May 1993, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 20 members in total.
LEGALISATION OF VOLUNTARY EUTHANASIA
That this House notes with interest the recent opinion poll which stated that 79 per cent. of British people support the legalisation of voluntary euthanasia; believes that it is right that adult persons, suffering from severe distress from an incurable illness, receive medical help to die at their own considered request; notes that the recent prosecution of Dr Cox exposed the hypocrisy of the current legal situation where a caring and compassionate doctor can be prosecuted for ending the agony of one of his patients; and calls on the Government to bring forward legislation to decriminalise and establish proper guidelines for voluntary euthanasia at the earliest possible opportunity.
