Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Iqbal Mohamed (Independent (affiliation)), on Monday, 19 January 2026, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 7 members in total.
Banning under 16s from social media
That this House notes with concern the impact of social media use on the mental wellbeing of children under 16, including increased anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and exposure to harmful content; recognises that current age restrictions and safeguards are insufficient to address this growing problem; and calls on the Government to ban access to social media for under-16s in order to better protect young people’s mental health and development.
