Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor David Chadwick (Liberal Democrat), on Monday, 18 May 2026, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 9 members in total.
St David’s Day (Dydd Gwyl Dewi)
That this House recognises St David’s Day (Dydd Gwyl Dewi), celebrated on 1 March, as the national day of Wales and a celebration of Welsh culture and identity, and of the life and legacy of Saint David (Dewi Sant), the patron saint of Wales; notes that St David’s Day should be formally recognised as a bank holiday in Wales; further notes that the national days of Scotland and Northern Ireland are already marked by bank holidays; believes the power to grant bank holidays in Wales should sit with the Welsh Government; and further believes that making St David’s Day a bank holiday in Wales this year would demonstrate that Wales is properly valued as a nation while also supporting community life, and the Welsh economy.
