Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor James McMurdock (Independent (affiliation)), on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 2 members in total.
Horndon-on-the-Hill Primary School and school swimming lessons
That this House congratulates Horndon-on-the-Hill Church of England Primary School on its innovative approach to delivering swimming and water safety lessons to its pupils; recognises the importance of swimming as part of the national curriculum and as a vital life skill for children; notes that many schools face significant financial challenges in providing swimming lessons, particularly where local swimming facilities are not easily accessible, resulting in valuable teaching time being lost through travel and additional transport costs being incurred; commends the school's decision to hire a swimming pool for an intensive period, enabling pupils to spend more time in the water and maximise the educational value of swimming lessons; acknowledges the efforts of staff and parents in supporting this initiative; and calls on the Government to recognise the challenges schools face in delivering curriculum swimming lessons, and to consider how schools can be better supported in providing this element of children's education.
