Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Ben Maguire (Liberal Democrat), on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 32 members in total.
Wellbeing support for fire and rescue services
That this House recognises the immense physical, emotional and psychological demands placed upon firefighters and fire control staff across the United Kingdom; notes concerns regarding the inconsistent provision of mental health support across fire and rescue services; acknowledges the evidence that firefighters are routinely exposed to traumatic incidents, high levels of occupational stress and significant risks to their long-term wellbeing; believes that the mental and physical health of firefighters should be treated as a national priority; calls on the Government to work with fire and rescue services, trade unions and health professionals to establish regular and comprehensive health screening programmes for firefighters throughout their careers and into retirement; and pays tribute to the dedication, courage and public service of firefighters who protect communities across the United Kingdom every day.
