60 years of Leicester Karate Club, the UK's oldest karate club

That this House congratulates Leicester Karate Club on the occasion of its 60th anniversary; recognises the club, established in 1966, as the oldest karate club in the UK, having trained generations of practitioners in the discipline, dedication and community spirit that define the martial art; welcomes the club's historical exhibition held on 13 June 2026, featuring memorabilia, photographs, artefacts, story boards and tournament trophies that chart the evolution of karate in the city and showcase the personal stories of past and present members; pays tribute to Chief Instructor Dave Wilkins and to all the instructors and volunteers whose commitment has sustained the club across the generations; acknowledges the valuable contribution the club has made to the health, wellbeing and sense of community of residents in Leicester South and across the city; and wishes Leicester Karate Club continued success in inspiring future generations of martial artists.
