Appointment of 11 Honorary Aldermen by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council

That this House notes the appointment of 11 former long-serving members of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council as Honorary Aldermen following the 2026 Local Elections; recognises the more than 190 years of combined public service given to the people of Newcastle-under-Lyme by these 11 individuals; further notes that these appointments were confirmed with unanimous support - from all political parties- at a meeting of Full Council, at Castle House in Newcastle-under-Lyme, on Wednesday 8th July 2026; also notes the new Honorary Aldermen who served in council wards in the Newcastle-under-Lyme parliamentary constituency, Alderman Gillian Williams who served for 33 years, Alderman John Williams who served for 31 years, Alderman Trevor Johnson who served for 12 years, Alderman Stephen Sweeney who served for 20 years, and Alderman Ian Wilkes who served for 20 years; and joins the Hon. Member for Newcastle-under-Lyme in giving thanks for their more than 100 years of combined service to the good people who live, learn and work in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
