BRITISH SCHOOL OF MOTORING-TREATMENT OF STAFF

That this House condemns the dismissal by the British School of Motoring of Kath Nicol, a franchised driving instructor in Birmingham, following her efforts to raise a petition amongst British School of Motoring instructors expressing concern about the company's decision to use Spanish-built Vauxhall Corsa cars rather than British-built Rover Metros; believes that the British School of Motoring's actions not only show a disregard to jobs in the British motor industry but also for freedom of speech and basic standards of treatment of those who work for the company; deplores British School of Motoring's use of franchise contracts to evade the standards of conduct that would be expected of the company under employment law; notes that the British School of Motoring has even attempted to cover up its action by inventing a pretext for the dismissal of Mrs Nicol; and therefore calls for a boycott of the British School of Motoring.
