2026 Commonwealth Young Person of the Year

That this House congratulates Shifra Ainomugisha of Uganda on being named the 2026 Commonwealth Young Person of the Year at the Commonwealth Youth Awards ceremony held in London on 25 June 2026; recognises Ms Ainomugisha as founder and CEO of Solafam, an agri-tech social enterprise delivering climate-smart, AI-driven solar-powered cold storage and irrigation solutions; commends this contribution to building economic and climate resilience for women and youth across Uganda and the Commonwealth; welcomes the wider work of the Commonwealth Youth Awards, in investing in young talent and grass-roots programmes across the Commonwealth; notes the important role the Commonwealth diaspora plays in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire and across the UK; and gives thanks to the Commonwealth Secretariat for the work they do to bring the Commonwealth family together.
