Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor James MacCleary (Liberal Democrat), on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 28 members in total.

Military housing

That this House expresses deep concern over the substandard living conditions endured by service personnel and their families; believes that all military accommodation should be legally included under the Decent Homes Standard (DHS) to ensure that service men and women and their families are guaranteed safe, dignified places to live; regrets that the Government’s recently announced Defence Investment Plan will deprioritise the urgent refurbishment of sub-standard military housing; further believes that cutting corners on personnel welfare directly undermines operational readiness, morale, recruitment and long-term retention within the Armed Forces; and urges the Government to immediately reverse plans to push back housing improvements, fully fund the eradication of mould and damp across the defence estate, and formally adopt the DHS for all service accommodation without delay, including single living accommodation.
