50th Anniversary of the Grunwick Strike

That this House recognises and commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Grunwick strike, a historic industrial dispute led by predominantly Asian women workers in Willesden, Brent; celebrates the courage and leadership of Jayaben Desai and the Grunwick women, who challenged poor working conditions after being denied union representation; recognises the solidarity of around 20,000 trade unionists and supporters who gathered outside the factory in July 1977; pays tribute to the work of the late Jack Dromey MP in ensuring the legacy of Grunwick was remembered and honoured; believes Grunwick demonstrated that the rights of migrant workers are inseparable from the rights of all workers and that an injustice to one is an injustice to all; notes that the women’s courage inspired generations of trade unionists from all backgrounds and transformed the labour movement; and calls on the Government to honour the legacy of Grunwick by continuing to promote dignity, equality and fairness at work for all.
