Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor John Heppell (Labour), on Wednesday, 13 January 1993, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 58 members in total.
CHILD MIGRANT'S TRUST
That this House is concerned that the BBC have not yet shown the drama/documentary The Leaving of Liverpool which, when shown on Australian television, prompted hundreds of telephone calls and public outrage; is further concerned that consideration is being given to editing the programme to prevent the British public seeing what was broadcast in Australia; further believes that the British Government should face up to its responsibilities for shipping nearly 10,000 British children, taken from care wards and orphanages, often without the knowledge of their parents, to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and what was then Rhodesia; asks the Government to provide funding for the Child Migrant's Trust to enable them to continue reuniting families; and calls on the Government to offer compensation to those who suffered and to assist the return of those who wish to do so.
