GREEN POUND

That this House, recognising that Her Majesty's Government accepted the case for an immediate devaluation of the green pound to compensate British farmers for the loss in value for their products consequent upon the withdrawal of ?? sterling from the Exchange Rate Mechanism on 16th Septemebr, deplores the delay of over three months before Ministers fully secure the necessary 15 per cent. devaluation; and calls upon them to seek an agreed second devaluation immediately.

leave out from 'House' to end and add 'notes that Her Majesty's Government decided to agree on 19 November to a 7% devaluation of the green pound which benefits farmers incomes but has a significant inflationary impact on key food prices; points out that owing to currency realignments within the Exchange Rate Mechanism, the green pound has devalued approximately 13% in total since 16 September; and calls on Her Majesty's Government in the interests of consumers and food and drink manufacturers not to proceed with any further devaluations before monetary compensatory amounts are abolished'.
