Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Simon Hughes (Liberal Democrat), on Thursday, 16 July 1992, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 17 members in total.

RESPONSE IN THE UK TO THE DROUGHT IN SOUTHERN AFRICA

That this House demands that Her Majesty's Government should ensure that the response, in the coming months of crisis, of this country and of the European Community to the unprecedented drought in Southern Africa, is as immediate and generous as that of Danny Whelan, a pupil in an infants' class at Southwark Park School, Bermondsey, who, when told this morning of the hunger and plight of children and adults in Southern Africa, immediately asked if he could go without his school dinner and send it to help these people in immediate need, many of whom would regard even one meal like Danny's school dinner as little short of a feast in the midst of day after day of worsening hunger.
